MCREA President Sue Jaysnovitch’s message September 2018
On this 2018 Labor Day weekend, your MCREA elected officers and Executive Board are busy voluntarily preparing for another year of vigilant advocacy. We must continue to protect our deferred compensation pension and benefits from ongoing attacks from our legislators in Trenton.
Thank you to each MCREA member who gave tirelessly of yourself while you worked ensuring that NJs Public schools were always among the very best in the nation. Whether you worked in a classroom, office, bus, cafeteria, or building and grounds, your professionalism, passion and advocacy made a difference in the lives of many students. Ninety percent of America’s youth are educated in public schools. These local public schools succeed because ALL of us play a key role in their success.
Across the nation, public education is under attack. Advocacy is more important than ever. Although there are over 100,000 who are enjoying NJ pensions because of their NJ public school service, 28,000 were unified NEA-R, NJREA, NJEA, MCREA members in 2018. We are stronger as a union together when we speak to legislators.
The numbers we represent are of key importance. If you would like me to speak to a prospective member, please contact me anytime at email@example.com. NJREA represents all retired school employees who retired from service in a NJ public school. The person may have retired years ago, but they can still join at any time. Phone (609) 599-1561 Extension 4123 and join the unified NJREA with credit card information.
To that end, I encourage each member to attend our MCREA Fall Luncheon on Thursday, October 18, 2018. As we explained at our June luncheon, we will be giving each MCREA member who brings another MCREA member who has never before attended one of our MCREA luncheons a delightful gift. There will be one for each of you so you both receive a token of our appreciation. You must note on your luncheon registration form that you are attending together, or you can send in your luncheon monies together. We guarantee you will both learn some useful information — while enjoying your swag for many years to come.
In a perfect world, you could just sit back and enjoy your retirement without having to spend your time and energy fighting for your deferred compensation. We have always been an easy target when NJ is short of money. We need to be especially vigilant right now and work as a team to keep the proposed changes to our pensions and benefits at bay. Continue to involve those you know in the political process and work for and value every single vote.
PLAN NOW TO VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018. Do your homework and prepare for this crucial day. There are 35 of the 100 Senate seats, all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives and 39 governorships in 36 states and 3 territories to be determined by YOU, the voter.
Begin each day with a grateful heart. Life is so very beautiful. Take the time to enjoy it this fall as you prepare with pumpkins, flannels, football and hoodies. Thank you to each and every one for all you do encouraging other retirees to join us.
